DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
The 8189 IP Surface Mount Speaker from Algo is a SIP-based, PoE-powered IP speaker for voice paging, emergency alerting and background music in indoor spaces. It is functionally identical to the Algo 8188 ceiling speaker, but the 8189 is designed for surface-mount installation on ceilings or walls. This makes it a great choice for classrooms, hallways, offices and other areas that do not use drop ceilings.
Because it is a fully compliant third-party SIP endpoint, the 8189 works with most hosted, cloud and on-premise VoIP telephone systems. You get IP-based paging and alerting without adding a separate amplifier or analog interface.
Wideband audio for clear paging and music
The 8189 IP Surface Mount Speaker supports the G.722 wideband HD voice codec for IP paging. As a result, the speaker delivers high intelligibility and clarity for voice announcements and emergency notification. This helps improve STI-PA scores and supports standards-based emergency communication, especially in education environments.
In addition, the 8189 is a music-capable speaker with super-wideband frequency response when used with a compatible paging adapter such as the Algo 8301. You can stream background music to the speaker as multicast at a lower priority. When a live page, emergency alert or scheduled tone occurs, it will automatically interrupt the music stream.
Dynamic volume control and talkback capability
The 8189 includes an integrated microphone that supports dynamic volume control based on ambient noise levels. The speaker can automatically raise its volume when the environment becomes noisy and lower it again when the area is quiet. This keeps pages and alerts audible without being uncomfortably loud.
The same microphone also enables talkback capability. In suitable configurations, users can have two-way conversations through the speaker, which is helpful for classrooms, help points or supervision from a central location.
Multicast scalability and zone paging
The 8189 IP Surface Mount Speaker supports multicast send and receive, which makes it easy to scale paging across a building or campus. A single registered 8189 can multicast to many Algo IP speakers, strobe lights, paging adapters and multicast-compatible IP phones. Devices receiving the multicast do not need their own SIP registration, so you reduce license and registration counts.
You can configure multicast zone paging for up to 50 zones from one 8189 IP speaker. There are two ways to select zones. First, you can map each multicast zone to a dedicated SIP page extension. Second, to minimize SIP registrations, you can use DTMF keypress selection from the calling telephone. Multiple SIP registrations are available for different roles, including Page, Emergency Alert and Ring extensions stored in device memory.
Ring extension for loud ringing and night bell
The 8189 can also act as an IP loud ringer or night bell. When a Ring extension is called, the speaker plays a configurable ring tone WAV file from its internal memory. Typically, this Ring extension belongs to a ring group with one or more telephones. The WAV file continues for the duration of the ring event until a call is answered. You can use default tones or upload custom WAV files for specific alerting needs.
Where audible and visual ringing is required, you can pair the 8189 with an Algo IP strobe using multicast or a relay. This combination is useful in noisy areas such as workshops, plant floors and loading docks.
Easy configuration, PoE power and typical applications
Configuration of the 8189 IP Surface Mount Speaker is done via a user-friendly web interface or via auto-provisioning. The speaker is network managed and supervised as an IP endpoint, so you can monitor status and firmware from a central location.
The device is a self-amplified PoE speaker that does not require a separate amplifier or local power brick. It uses PoE (IEEE 802.3af) for power, which simplifies wiring and infrastructure. The 8189 is also UL/CSA, FCC and CE certified for use in commercial deployments.
Typical environments include schools, hospitals, retail stores, hospitality locations and offices. In these spaces, the 8189 handles everyday paging, safety announcements, emergency alerts and background music from a single surface-mount endpoint.
