DESCRIPTION

The 8180 IP Audio Alerter from Algo is a wall-mount PoE IP speaker for loud ringing, voice paging and emergency alerting. It is a fully SIP-compliant and multicast-capable endpoint, so it works with most hosted, cloud and on-premise VoIP systems. Because it is powered by PoE, one Ethernet cable carries both power and data, which simplifies installation.

In daily use, the 8180 replaces or reinforces small phone speakers that are too quiet. As a result, calls, pages and alerts remain clearly audible even in noisy areas.

Wideband HD audio for clear announcements

First, the 8180 IP Audio Alerter supports the G.722 wideband HD voice codec. This wideband audio greatly improves speech clarity compared to traditional narrowband G.711. Therefore, voice paging and emergency messages sound more natural, and words are easier to understand.

In addition, the 8180 uses a high-efficiency amplifier and a tuned loudspeaker. This design makes the device typically up to eight times louder than a standard telephone speaker. When you add an external horn speaker, the system can become even louder, which is helpful in very noisy environments.

IP loud ringer for noisy environments

The 8180 IP Audio Alerter also works as an IP loud ringer or night bell. You can assign a dedicated Ring SIP extension to it. When that extension receives a call, the 8180 automatically plays a ring tone WAV file stored in its internal memory.

Typically, this Ring extension belongs to a ring group that also includes one or more telephones. Thus, the 8180 provides a loud, attention-grabbing ring whenever the group receives an incoming call. Moreover, you can upload custom WAV files, so different ring patterns or tones can match different alert types or departments.

Dynamic volume control and talkback capability

The 8180 includes an integrated microphone. Thanks to this microphone, the device offers dynamic volume control based on ambient noise. The speaker measures the background sound level and then adjusts its output. When the area becomes louder, the 8180 increases its volume. When the area is quiet, it reduces the volume. In this way, alerts remain audible without being uncomfortably loud.

Furthermore, the same microphone enables talkback capability. In supported configurations, the 8180 can auto-answer a Page extension and allow two-way conversation. This is useful for quick exchanges with a workshop, stock room, classroom or service counter from a central phone.

Multicast scalability and zone paging

The 8180 IP Audio Alerter supports multicast send and receive. Because of this, one registered 8180 can multicast paging and alert audio to many IP speakers, paging adapters and visual alerters. Devices that only receive the multicast do not need their own SIP registrations, so you reduce license usage and configuration complexity.

You can configure multicast zone paging with up to fifty zones on a single 8180. On the one hand, you may map each zone to a dedicated Page SIP extension. On the other hand, you can minimise registrations by selecting zones using DTMF keys from the calling phone. This flexibility lets you target specific rooms, work areas or buildings with the right message at the right time.

Typical applications and simple installation

In practice, the 8180 IP Audio Alerter is used wherever you need loud, reliable audio alerts. Common locations include offices, retail stores, schools, warehouses, workshops, loading docks and lunch rooms. In these spaces, the 8180 handles paging, emergency alerts and loud ringing from a single compact wall-mounted device.

Installation is straightforward. The unit ships with a wall-mount bracket, so you can place it near doors, corridors or workstations. Since it is a self-amplified PoE endpoint, you do not need a separate amplifier or local power supply. Configuration takes place through a browser-based web interface or via auto-provisioning, which makes larger deployments easier to manage.
